Yesterday was a great day. It really came to me how much I enjoy Cracow. It’s surely the best city to live in Poland. I’m going to enjoy all it has to offer as long as I’m stationed in this country. Yesterday I kicked off the day with a breakfast in the garden of one of my favorite cafes, then walked around the Old Town smiling at people and enjoying the great sunny weather. I was just there, enjoying being there and watching the images before my eyes. Very relaxing.

It is good to have friends! It’s a truism, but it’s so helpful to have someone to talk to in tough times. And if intense emotions are involved sane advice from someone not influenced by them is a lifesaver. Now, thanks to modern technology, friends can be with us even if they are oceans apart. I’m so grateful for that in this city, where I know no one except for the people I work with. (more…)

I watched “Equilibrium” last night, a movie depicting a dark, utopian world where people are devoid of feelings. No love. Therefore no pain. And no anger. Therefore no conflicts. Just one dose of a nifty drug a day removes them all. In the name of humanity, to ensure peace, of course. People live cruel, cold lives not realizing what they lost… Interesting, though rather shallow image of a society founded on fear of what feelings might bring.

I sit in a small room in a soft chair. There are 5 other chairs here. I sit in dim light from one fluorescent tube on the ceiling. And the room vibrates, shakes and wobbles. It’s called a compartment. (more…)
